Create A Tidy Workspace You’ll Love With Our Top Tips!

A new year is a great time to make some fresh changes!

Whilst setting up our new calendars for 2022, we couldn’t help but notice that there’s such a thing as National Clean Your Desk Day (yes, we know, there’s seemingly a day for everything).  Whilst there are people out there of the opposite mindset, at Little Bird Creative we are firm believers that a tidy workspace makes for a happier, healthier work environment.  So, how can you create a neat, calm space in which to smash those work goals?!  We thought we’d share a few tips…

1. Start from scratch

As Julie Andrews sang in The Sound of Music, sometimes you have to start at the very beginning (a very good place to start!).

If you’re trying to create a zen-like workspace, with no clutter in sight, a good first step can be to remove everything – or at least as much as you can – and start fresh.  Sometimes, only by seeing your  workspace as bare as possible, can you begin to envisage it as you want.

2. Be ruthless!

The next step is to go through all that stuff and get rid of anything you don’t need.  Be ruthless!  If you’re anything like Little Bird Emma, you’ll have everything from random receipts dating back to 2015, to beads from bracelets you’ve not worn in years, but have kept “just in case.”  Now is the time to decide whether you need to keep that clutter, or whether it’s time to get recycling!

3. Reorganise... Redecorate?!

We can become so used to the layout of a space that we barely even notice if it’s no longer serving us properly.  The change that simply moving furniture around or adding a change of colour to your walls can cause is amazing.

We spend a huge amount of time at work and that means that the space we work in needs to be just the way we want it.  Clutter can also be the result of a layout that no longer works, so experiment with your workspace and move things around until you have all the really important things close by and anything you don’t use regularly tidied away in a cupboard or drawer.

4. Trim your to do list with Little Bird Creative!

If you’re anything like us, a lot of the clutter in your workspace will be to do lists or post-it notes with jobs scribbled onto them.  How do you get rid of those?!  Pass them on to us, of course!

If you’ve got copywriting, event publicity, graphic design, illustration, podcast editing or videography on your to-do list, get in touch to find out how we can help!

5. Now keep it up!

It’s easy to get everything ship-shape, only to notice a few weeks later that chaos has somehow returned.  We know, we’ve been there!  But staying on top of the little things – putting documents back in a drawer when you’ve finished using them rather than leaving them on the desk, for example – can help you maintain a tidy workspace for far longer.  It’s much simpler to stay on top of things if you do a little bit each day and make it part of your routine.

We are going to make a concerted effort to keep the Little Bird Creative office clear of clutter – consider it to be one of our New Year’s resolutions!  And if we can do it, so can you.  Good luck!
